Whiplash and Concussions from an Auto Accident

Have You Been Injured in a Car, Motorcycle or Truck Accident?

There are more than 300,000 automobile accidents in Florida each year; most are caused by negligent or distracted drivers. Unfortunately, many of those involved in these accidents have made a common mistake when seeking treatment – they contacted a lawyer referral service. These services are designed to exhaust insurance benefits and, more often than not, rarely provide appropriate care. And once the money is gone, the victims are left to suffer in pain with no available funds to cover additional treatment.

We Accept All Major Auto Insurance

At Jacksonville Sport & Spine, we are experienced at handling auto accident medical claims, but with one very important difference – we are here to help YOU! We won’t waste your time and money ordering unnecessary tests, and you can feel confident that we will provide the highest level of chiropractic care available. Most importantly, we accept all major auto insurance, so you don’t have to worry about how you are going to pay for your treatment. We’ll even help you process the paperwork.

We Are Jacksonville’s Car Crash Injury Experts!

We understand the stress and frustration that comes from being involved in a crash. There are usually a million things running through your mind, such as how you’re going to pay for repairs or how much time you’ll miss at work. Sometimes, you don’t even realize you’ve suffered an injury until the adrenaline wears off, which can be a few hours or even a few days after the crash; that’s why it’s so important that you see a physician within 14 days of an auto accident. At Jacksonville Sport & Spine, we are experienced at diagnosing and treating crash injuries, such as lower back pain, neck pain and headaches, as well as concussions and whiplash.

Concussion Symptoms, Causes and Treatment

A concussion, also known as a mild traumatic brain injury (TBI), can occur after a strong blow or bump to the head. High impact sports, such as football and hockey, can increase your risk of concussion, but auto accidents and falls are the leading cause of most head injuries.

Concussion Symptoms

The signs and symptoms of a concussion are often subtle and easily missed; it may be hours, days, or even months before you notice changes that indicate you have suffered a concussion. Some of the most common symptoms include loss of memory, confusion and headache. Although some people lose consciousness, many do not. Other signs and symptoms of a concussion may include:

Ringing in the ears
Blurred vision
Nausea or vomiting
Sensitivity to light or noise
Changes in mood (irritable or depressed)
Slurred speech

If you are experiencing concussion symptoms due to a car accident or sports-related injury, Jacksonville Sport & Spine can help. We have the experience and knowledge to effectively evaluate your condition and provide the correct course of treatment. Contact us today to schedule an appointment.

Symptoms and Treatment of Neck Injury and Whiplash

Whiplash occurs when the neck is suddenly snapped back and forth in a forceful motion. Approximately 1 million people are treated for whiplash injuries each year. The most common cause of whiplash is an auto accident. The speed of the vehicles involved in the accident, however, may not directly relate to the intensity of the neck injury. Even if you are wearing a seat belt, an impact as slow as 5 miles per hour can produce enough force to cause whiplash.

Whiplash Symptoms

Whiplash symptoms may present immediately after injury or develop several hours later, often intensifying within 24 to 48 hours. Most people will experience pain and stiffness in their neck and/or back, but other common symptoms may include:

Headaches that start at the base of the skull
Limited range of motion or pain when moving neck
Sore shoulders, arms or jaw muscles
Memory problems or difficulty concentrating

Blurred vision or ringing in the ears

If you have been involved in an automobile accident and start to feel nauseous, excessively sleepy, dizzy or lose consciousness, seek medical help immediately as you may be suffering from a concussion, as well.

Whiplash Treatment

Whiplash injuries can be difficult to diagnose because they rarely show up on x-rays. At Jacksonville Sport & Spine, however, we have been successful in evaluating and treating patients who are experiencing whiplash symptoms due to auto accidents, sports injuries and other incidents. Don’t suffer with pain any longer.
